Home Foundation Restoration
CASE STUDY:HOME FOUNDATION RESTORATION
In Mid-November, a homeowner in the Annapolis area called Stop Leak. The conversation began rather unusually, “I have already fired four contractors.” Naturally, hearing this was a cause for concern. After catching our collective breathes, the customer explained that the string of disastrous contractors led her to Angie’s List, where she found Stop Leak (6-Time Consecutive Super Service Award Winner.)
As it turned out, the homeowner had recently purchased a property near the water with serious structural problems and was not in a position to demolish and reconstruct. We recommended they hire a licensed professional engineer to evaluate and design a plan at which time we would be most happy to quote the work. Once we received the drawings from the engineer, we evaluated the scope and priced the work. The scope included demolition of the entire interior floor, where we uncovered a crawl space with a significant amount of standing water and rotted joists. So, we went to work.
Over a three-week period we constructed 26 concrete piers, to a depth below the frost line. Once the piers were in place, new microlams and sister joists were installed to raise the existing joists. A complete Pressure Relief system was installed including two sump pumps and a 10 mil. vapor barrier with two inches of gravel placed over it.
In all, the project proved to be one of the most complicated in our 10-year history. Our team faced frigid muddy conditions and a near-constant battle with raising water levels, partially attributable a leaking sanitary line. Where other’s failed, Stop Leak prevailed due to outstanding leadership and planning on the part of the crew chief and his cew.
